What’s in a Name…?

Racism isn’t all white hoods and riots.  And it is, regrettably, still a thing.  It can be micro-conflicts that people encounter every day.  It can be what we do if we witness such micro-conflicts, and what we don’t do.  It’s how we behave toward certain people.  It’s how we treat people differently based on appearances and assumptions and centuries of conditioning, and the continued tolerance of such things.  Oh, it’s real.  And it’s ripping us apart.  I can’t believe what I’m seeing, America.  We stand together Friday nights and Saturday mornings with our hands over our hearts and say we are “Indivisible???”  Shyah nope, I call bullshit, America.  Because we hide behind party lines and we ignore racial injustices, and we excuse inhumane policies, and we justify it because that’s supposed to be normal, now?  Because that’s what we’re being told to do??  Because that’s good for business???

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

-Martin Luther King, Jr.

We pledge allegiance to the land of the free and the home of the brave.  Americans know what it takes to have a land of the free.  If you consider this your home, we know it lies on us to do the brave thing.  Not the easy thing.  Maybe not the popular thing.  “Brave” says look inside of yourself and do the thing that’s hardest.  It says, when you see something that just feels so wrong, look inside of yourself and do the thing that takes courage.  It means, when you encounter a situation, do not lean on your own experience to understand it. Instead, just take a moment to consider the experience of person in the conflict. If you consider this your home, you should be most offended at injustice.  This is not liberty and justice for all, America.  This is justice for some… death for others… pardons for others… major contracts for others… We can’t be so naïve, America.  It’s not the same for everyone. And we’re all feeding the system. So, we all have a share in how this goes from here.
